The Hopeful Community

Our life is the most profound witness to our connection with God.
A False Perspective: Only certain people can share their faith.
The Reality of God's Truth: ALL Christians can share their faith.
Scripture: Colossians 1:3-6
The Four-Part Story of Hope
The story of Jesus is also our story.
1) Death - "For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God." (Col.3:3)
2) Resurrection - "...when you were buried with him in baptism, you were also raised with him through faith in the power of God, who raised him from the dead." (Col. 2:12 NRSV)
3) Ascension - "Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God." (Col. 3:1)
4) Return - "When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory." (Col. 3:4)
Hope in ACTION
Romans 12:10-18: Be devoted to one another . . . Honor one another . . . Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer . . . Practice hospitality . . . Bless those who persecute you . . . Live in harmony with one another . . . live at peace with everyone.
Hope in WORDS
I Peter 3:5: Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect . . .
The Hope we have in Jesus is ALIVE and will NEVER die!
Putting what we've heard in action: Soul Training Exercise
Practice being more intentional about reaching out to others to help draw them into the life of faith.
1) Pray - Pray for God to send someone, or if God has already laid someone on your heart, pray for God to create an opportunity to share.
2) Watch - Ask God to help you see who he is bringing to you and to see when you can take the next step.
3) Reach out - Find ways tor each out to the person in nonthreatening ways.
4) Listen - Listen for clues to the other person's heart.
5) Connect - Try to connect his or her situation with the message of the gospel
6) Share - Share your story or thoughts, explaining how the gospel has intersected your life.
7) Invite - At some point invite the person to join you at church, a small group study or a social activity with other Christians.
Above all, keep praying for this person . . . and be prepared for it to take time. Trust God!
