Why Pain?
- Natural reasons - to avoid more damage
- Human reasons - to punish and control
- God's reasons - to take away the pain that we deserve
Why Humiliation?
- Natural reasons - the antidote to pride (and greater humilation)
- Human reasons - to inflict social and emotional pain, to "put people in their place"
- God's reasons - to put us in our place (connected to God)
Why Jesus?
It is a "done deal"
- But we still have a choice
- It shows how much God loves us
- It is only a tragedy if we let it go to waste!
