In the kingdom of this world, people feel dis-empowered, vulnerable, impotent, and exposed . . . and they believe the quickest way to deal with this insecurity is to gain power and to take charge.
They live by a false narrative: If someone hits you, hit them back harder.

To love is to will the good of another. When Jesus tells us to love our enemies, he is not asking us to feel love but to act in love toward everyone, including our enemies.
Since God is with us and for us and able to provide for us, our need to retaliate is diminished.
