Jesus ministers to the Samaritan Woman at the Well

Jesus broke down all barriers

He brought Himself into contact and conversation with a person that Jews would never have spent time with.

-Religious-Ethnic Barrier (Samaritan) - John 4:4-9

-Gender Barrier (Woman) - Jewish men (especially a Rabbi) did not  and would not converse with a woman publicly

-Reputation Barrier (Immoral Background) - John 4:17-18

Jesus' Approach

-He takes the initiative ... personal conversation ... (John 4:7)

-Does not talk about being superior in religious beliefs or practice ... (John 4:9-10)

-Turns the conversation to a focus on Jesus, not religion. (John 4:10-15)

-He used her (Samaritan) concepts/literature in an affirming way

-He meets her gently at her point of need... (John 4:16-18)

-He avoids a discussion of religion and instead focuses of God and Himself. (John 4:20-26)

RESULTS

Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman's testimony (John 4:39)

They said to the woman, "We no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have head for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the Savior of the world." (John 4:42)
