Ash Wednesday marks the start of the season of Lent, which begins 40 days prior to Easter (Sundays are not included in the count). Lent is a time when many Christians prepare for Easter by observing a period of fasting, repentance, moderation and spiritual discipline. At our Ash Wednesday service, we will take time to repent of our sins and seek God's face. As part of the service, Pastor Rick will lightly rub the sign of the cross with ashes onto the foreheads of worshipers.

The imposition of ashes on the foreheads of Christians is an ancient Christian practice, going back at least to the 10th century. Biblically, ashes are a symbol of purification and penitence. Everyone is invited to this service.
